Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA):

The DFMEA should focus on the Functionality of the Product or service under consideration.

There are three types of DFMEA (Design Failure mode and Effect analysis). The highest level is the System level DFMEA, followed by the sub system level DFMEA and finally the component level DFMEA. The difference to be noted while working on creating a robust DFMEA is very important, the system and sub system level DFMEA will have the next sub system a the cause of failure. The component level DFMEA will have the feature, specification, locations, measurements, tolerances and stack ups as key causes of failure.
